Wondering where we had been? Wondering why we would have taken two month olds to Bourbon Street....IT WAS FAIR TIME PEOPLE!!!!
Yes, "The Fair" has come and gone, but we made lots of great memories this year! The fair started on Saturday July 25 and lasted until Friday July 31. The girls and I picked Dan up on Friday after work before the fair started and headed to Philadelphia. That was an adventure on it's on because that was the first long road trip the girls have made. They did pretty good, got a little fussy towards the end. As soon as we pulled up to the fair cabin people were rushing to get Aubrey and Lainey out and just making over them like they were celebrities, but to us they are! :) We visited with everyone around the cabin and even walked down to other cabins to see friends that we hadn't seen since last year. Aubrey and Lainey were the talk of the fair!

Saturday finally rolls around, Moma D and Popa Jim had the girls out on the porch before 8AM showing them off to anyone that walked by! On Saturday they have arts and crafts day, Moma D went crazy buying for the girls and for me as well ( hey my daughters can't be stylish without a stylish mom!) They got 6 new hair bows each, plus a few new outfits! The first day was lots of fun, and for once it wasn't too hot! Of course we had to get a Lindsey's Lemonade and a funnel cake! Oh it was WONDERFUL!
On Sunday, the weather was PERFECT! We sat on the porch all day, even put the swing out for the girls to take turns in. They were shown off even more. And to show how much they were a talk of the fair. They made the cover story of
The Fair Times (click to see picture)( a daily paper put out just for the fair, the paper didn't come out until Thursday, and when it did Popa Jim had to get 20 copies for us) The girls wore their Cabin # 153 shirts on Sunday as well. All the kids mostly 10 and under have their cabin number written on them , usually on legs or arms, that way if they were to get lost or away from their parent they would know which cabin they belong to, so with that being said, so people would know when we were out visiting which cabin we belonged to, the girls wore their
number proudly! Sunday is another exciting day at the fair because that is when the harness and racing horse races start. Popa Jim announces the races and let it be known LOTS of times that Aubrey and Lainey were attending their first fair.
Monday, consisted of more races, more food, and lots of front porch rocking. Also waking up to find that both, not one, but both of my children had been "grandparent-napped" to be on the front porch again by 8AM. SPOILED! BIG TIME! Anyway, The Miss Neshoba County Pageant was also Monday night and that is a big honor to be crowned! (Picture taken on Friday, girls with Miss Neshoba County and Miss Choctaw Princess 2009)
Even getting a front row seat for it during the Chair Races can get brutal! We came back home Monday afternoon for a few days ( the girls had to get their two months shots on Wednesday, bless them!), but we would be returning on Thursday afternoon!
Fast forward to Thursday, we are back at the fair, and it was amazing that we were actually missed, well probably not us as much as Aubrey and Lainey were! lol Thursday night we got to see Neil McCoy and then one of my favorite bands from college, U.S., and seeing them made me miss college , maybe not the late nights, but the fun I did have!
Friday, the last day of the fair is finally here, it's kinda sad knowing that when you get up
Saturday morning, it will begin to look like a ghost town until next year. On the last day, they have a Memorial Race in honor of Jim's dad. It is a real honor for him to announce that race, especially since Jim ( or Jimmy as he is known at the fair ) is a second generation announcer, his dad was the announcer of the races before he died, and Jim was in the races as a jockey when he was younger! And once again, he made it known that the girls were there! Dan and I finally got some recognition too! lol The Chair Race is also a big thing at the fair, as soon as the last horse race is over, people run with as many lawn chairs as they can up to the race track to get seats for that night's concert.( I didn't get any pictures, but here is a
clip from youtube that shows you what happens, people get MEAN about it!) Jim was also very sweet enough to get Dan and I backstage passes to meet the country group Little
Big Town. After the concert they had an awesome fireworks show! The girls slept through most of it, so maybe next year they will get excitement from it! We enjoyed one last funnel cake, and even fried Oreo's, they were delicious!
We had a wonderful time at the fair, I have been going since 2003, but this year meant a whol
e lot more since Aubrey and Lainey were able to go, they wont remember it, but there are tons of people that will tell them stories about it, and the pictures that we have from it! Thanks Popa Jim and Moma D for a wonderful week and we look forward to many many more fairs!! We Love Ya'll!!
